It is the counterpart of the ball cup: it mounts on the bracket and provides the ball the gas spring end fitting snaps onto, letting the assembly pivot.
Choose a ball cup with the same 10 mm ball diameter: that is the dimension that pairs the two parts. The M6 thread fixes the stud to the bracket or chassis.
